Description

Cudeman Alazan Olive Wood (143-L): a full-tang hunting knife for the field

The Cudeman Alazan is one of the most recent and best-balanced designs from the Albacete maker, conceived for those who hunt and demand a nimble piece without giving up notable robustness. It carries a 9.5 cm blade with a profile built for fieldwork, and brings together functionality and brand character: the signature elephant is engraved on natural olive wood. It is distributed by Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.

Its full-tang construction together with the clip-point tip make it a reliable companion when skinning and dressing game. It blends the warmth of Albacete's natural materials with the mechanical endurance that long days in the field demand, offering complete control on every pass.

Reasons this piece is worth it

  • Clip-point profile: the sharp, descending tip makes detail work and piercing cuts effortless, well suited to both small and big game.
  • Hollow-grind edge: this grind delivers an extremely keen cut and outstanding initial penetration, achieving clean incisions with hardly any effort.
  • Thumb ramp: the machining on the blade spine acts as a firm rest for the thumb and lets you apply force during fine cutting without the finger slipping.
  • Its own identity: the interplay between natural olive wood, the black spacers and the engraved elephant conveys an exclusive air rooted in traditional cutlery.

Steel and edge behaviour

The blade uses molybdenum vanadium steel, a material of proven dependability within Spanish sporting cutlery. Hardness sits around 54/56 HRc, a value that brings very high toughness: it withstands impacts and prolonged use without the edge chipping. Another of its strengths is how easy it is to resharpen, since a basic stone or a field sharpener is enough to restore an effective working edge in minutes and keep the tool always ready.

Construction and durability

This is a full-tang knife, in which blade and handle are born from a single 3.8 mm thick steel plate. That configuration removes weak points at the joint and transmits rock-solid sturdiness to the hand. The scales are permanently fixed with flat aluminium rivets, creating a compact block built to last for decades. Bear in mind that, owing to its hollow grind, it is not suited to heavy chopping or to lateral prying against very hard materials.

Handle and real-world handling

The handle is crafted in satin-finished natural olive wood, a dense, resilient wood that moulds naturally to the palm. The black fibre spacers, beyond their decorative value, help compensate for the slight expansion typical of a natural material. Olive wood offers a warm, firm feel, with an organic grip that improves over time. It also features a lanyard hole, so the piece can be secured to the wrist and prevent drops on tricky terrain.

Sheath and carry

The piece is protected by a high-quality brown leather sheath with a pistol-style cut. It is made by the manufacturer itself with a very precise fit that prevents unnecessary play. The leather, tanned to face the elements, ensures a discreet carry held firmly to the belt, something key during stalking and when moving through vegetation.

Recommended uses

  • Big and small game: a tool specialised in skinning and cleaning game thanks to its tip and hollow-ground edge.
  • Auxiliary finishing piece: its compact format makes it ideal as a backup second knife within the hunting kit.
  • Collecting and tradition: with its olive wood finish and the engraved elephant, it fits among the reference pieces for anyone who appreciates classic Spanish cutlery.

Care and maintenance

  • Because of its olive wood handle, keep the piece in a dry place and wet the grip as little as possible.
  • Clean the blade after each use, especially if it has touched organic fluids, and dry it with a soft cloth.
  • Before prolonged storage, it is worth wiping a thin film of mineral oil over the steel.
  • To preserve the original hollow geometry, touch up the edge with medium-fine grit stones.
  • The sheath can occasionally be treated with a little leather-specific grease, which keeps it supple and water-repellent.

The Cudeman Alazan (143-L) distils the spirit of the Mediterranean: an olive wood knife where craftsmanship meets a precise cut, with a secure grip and the elephant branded into the grip as the seal of a piece made to last a lifetime.
