Description

Cudeman Sanabria II (182-T): pocket-sized bushcraft with a black jute handle

The Cudeman Sanabria II distils the technical spirit of its bigger sibling into a noticeably lighter, easier-to-carry body. It was likewise born in 2019 out of the collaboration with El Duende Bushcraft, stripping away everything superfluous to gain agility. Its dimensions come close to those of a neck knife, yet it keeps the firmness and grip you would expect from a full-size field knife.

With full-tang construction and a weight of barely 80 grams, it makes an ideal companion for anyone who values minimalism without giving up cutting capability. Like the rest of the Sanabria series, this piece draws on unconventional materials and a geometry conceived for hands-on time in the outdoors, made with the craftsmanship that is the hallmark of Albacete.

What sets this model apart

  • Comfortable carry: its compact dimensions let you hang it, slip it into a pocket or fix it to your belt while barely noticing the weight, whether as the main blade on lightweight outings or as a backup.
  • Eco-friendly, hard-wearing handle: the black jute scales add a distinctive rough texture that ensures a firm hold even with wet hands, while being a sustainable plant-based material that is also extremely durable.
  • Tip control: the short blade grants almost total command over the point, which favours detailed carving, food preparation and precise cutting in complete safety.
  • Jimped spine: the ratchet-like jimping cut into the back offers a firm thumb rest and increases the force you can apply to the cut despite the knife's small format.

Steel and edge

The blade is made from molybdenum-vanadium steel, an alloy prized for its high toughness and good corrosion resistance. Its hardness of 54/56 HRc delivers a keen, biting edge and, crucially for bushcraft, remarkably easy resharpening. You can expect solid performance through repeated cuts, keeping the tool ready for work with minimal maintenance out in the field.

Construction and durability

With a thickness of 3 mm and full-tang architecture, this small knife achieves a solidity that is surprising for its size. The assembly has no weak points, as the jute scales are held in place with high-strength aluminium rivets. Although its size is not intended for demanding batoning, its integral structure lets it absorb lateral stress and heavy-duty work that would rule out other tools in its class.

Handle and ergonomics

The black jute handle has been trimmed to the bare essentials (9 cm) to keep things discreet and lighten the whole, without giving up the ergonomics that real use demands. The jute plant fibre offers a natural, non-slip feel well above the usual plastics. It also features a lanyard hole, so you can add a cord to extend the grip when a task calls for more leverage.

Sheath and portability

The sheath, in high-quality black leather, is designed and made entirely in the Cudeman workshop. It is a understated piece of leatherwork that hugs the knife's outline with millimetre precision and keeps the Sanabria II secure in any orientation. At just 45 grams, its lightness fits the idea that governs this model: keep it to hand at the right moment and stay unnoticed on the move.

Intended uses

  • Carving and light bushcraft: it is well suited to making small utensils, notching traps or debarking sticks with notable precision.
  • EDC and mountain use: its discreet size makes it a good choice for hikers who need a safe blade to eat with or handle small repairs along the trail.
  • Backup blade: a natural companion to carry alongside an axe or a large knife, reserving it for fine, delicate cuts.

Care and maintenance

  • As jute is a plant-based material, store the piece in a dry place and avoid prolonged moisture to preserve the fibre.
  • Clean the blade after each use to remove organic residue; the molybdenum-vanadium steel holds up well, but quick drying keeps the satin finish intact and prevents rust spots.
  • Avoid leaving the knife inside the sheath if it has got wet; let both dry separately before putting them back together.
  • Because of jute's natural porosity, do not overuse mineral oils, so you neither saturate the fibre nor alter its original rough feel.
  • Touch up the edge with fine-grit stones to make the most of its carefully ground geometry.

The Cudeman Sanabria II (182-T) proves that size does not dictate usefulness: a signature blade, compact and highly effective, designed to accompany you at every stage of the adventure. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
