Description

Cudeman MT-5 120-GV in green G10: the evolution of the most iconic survival knife

Launched late last year, the 120-GV takes Cudeman's MT series into new territory. It keeps the proven geometry of the whole family and pairs it with modern materials, designed for those who practise bushcraft, survival or demanding professional tasks where gear simply cannot fail. Its full-black finish, with synthetic scales and a matching sheath, retains the rugged character of the earlier models and adds clearly superior resistance to water, mud and cold.

Reasons to choose it

  • A grip that never lets go: the textured green G10 keeps your hand in full control even when the environment is wet or muddy.
  • Built for demanding work: with a 5 mm blade thickness and a flat grind, it is up to batoning, shaping wood or impact tasks.
  • Precise cutting: the non-slip jimping on the spine locks the thumb in place and adds confidence in detail cuts.
  • Useful in emergencies: the solid striking pommel at the rear can shatter glass or strike hard surfaces when the situation calls for it.

Steel and edge behaviour

The blade is made from Bohler N-695 steel hardened to 59/60 HRc. It is a high-performance alloy that holds its edge through long days on hard wood, with good toughness and notable corrosion resistance. Despite its hardness, it can be resharpened right at camp with the right tools, so cutting performance is restored without relying on a workshop.

Construction and strength

This is a full-tang knife: a thick steel plate runs through the entire piece. It is paired with an A-304 stainless steel bolster in a satin finish, which balances the knife and stops the fingers from sliding towards the edge. This solid structure dampens the vibration of heavy blows and eliminates weak points, delivering a firmness you can feel in hand and that withstands severe stress.

Handle and ergonomics

The scales are green G10 with black spacers, a high-density synthetic laminate that is waterproof and indifferent to sudden temperature changes: it does not warp, absorb moisture or hold odours. It features holes on both the blade and the end of the handle to lash the knife to a pole and turn it into a spear. The assembly is secured to the chassis with threaded brass bushings and stainless steel Allen hardware, allowing fine adjustment and disassembly for a thorough clean after heavy use.

Sheath and available versions

Carry is handled by a black leather sheath in a full-black aesthetic, stitching included, for a discreet, tactical profile. The model comes in three configurations to suit each user's needs:

  • 120-GV: full-black multi-position leather sheath (vertical and horizontal), with a classic, secure carry.
  • 120-GVC: the same full multi-position sheath, expanded with a complete survival kit (sharpening stone, firesteel, signalling mirror and 2.8 metres of paracord).
  • 120-GV-K: tactical Kydex sheath, ideal for very fast draws and mechanical retention in wet or extremely humid conditions.

Where it performs best

  • Demanding survival: its mass and the drop-point profile favour shelter building, batoning and fire preparation.
  • Tactical and rescue tasks: the striking pommel, synthetic materials and dark sheath make it reliable for professional use.
  • Bushcraft in cold or wet conditions: the unalterable G10 handle lets you work with gloves or in the rain without losing grip.

Care and maintenance

  • Cleaning the scales: G10 needs no conditioning; just water and a soft brush to remove mud or resin.
  • Blade care: dry the steel after use in salty or very humid environments to avoid surface staining.
  • Checking the hardware: periodically check the tightness of the Allen screws after sustained impact tasks.
  • Sharpening: touch up the edge with diamond plates or fine-grit ceramic stones to preserve the cutting performance of the Bohler N-695.

The Cudeman MT-5 (120-GV) sums up modern survival in a powerful, updated tool, made by Cudeman in Albacete. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
