Description

Boina Verde Cadete 291-N: a low-profile blued tactical knife built for maximum impact

On certain operations any glint can give away a position, so a discreet yet hard-hitting tool is exactly what you want. The Boina Verde Cadete (291-N) tactical knife is the darkest, most combat-oriented model in Cudeman's operational range. It was designed for those who wanted all the destructive capability of the larger model in a more compact and manageable body, and the blade is given a black blued treatment that fully kills any reflection, leaving a piece built for stealth.

Made in Albacete to military standards, it goes far beyond a simple cutting edge: it works like a compact, portable intervention kit geared towards combat and rescue. It retains the performance of its bigger brother, the Boina Verde Espanol (299-N), delivering a reliable, multi-purpose response when the conditions on the ground get truly difficult.

Why choose this Cudeman

  • Total discretion in the field: the blued finish darkens the steel entirely and suppresses any flash under sunlight or tactical lighting, helping you stay unnoticed.
  • Powerful penetration and agile cutting: the 15 cm blade strikes a balance that lets you chop without tiring the arm during long patrols.
  • Emergency multi-tool: it features a glass breaker in the pommel, a wire cutter and a bullet capsule remover, so it can solve critical situations without reaching for other gear.

Steel and edge performance

In tactical use the steel cannot fail. That is why this piece is built around tough Bohler N-695, which after heat treatment reaches 59/60 HRc hardness. That alloy combines a biting edge with very high durability. Beyond camouflage, the blued finish adds an extra layer of protection against corrosion in salty or humid environments. The blade grind favours deep, clean cuts and, despite the high hardness, the edge can be revived in the field with a good diamond stone.

Construction and toughness

The whole knife is practically a block of containment. It is full-tang construction: a solid 5 mm thick steel plate and a 3.8 cm wide tang that structures its 340 g of weight. The scales are screwed on with great precision using stainless Allen hardware and internal threaded brass bushings, which reinforces the assembly against impacts. The Clip-Point tip is highly effective at piercing, though common sense says you should not use it as a pry bar on solid rock or to force armoured doors. Bear in mind that blueing is a surface-level coating; it is therefore expected and entirely normal that, with wear or mechanical friction, the silver tone of the base steel will show through, an inherent and unavoidable technical trait of this type of finish.

Handle and control in real use

When the situation gets tense, grip is everything. The scales are made of satin black Micarta with a striking red spacer. Micarta is a military-grade material that repels water, mud and blood, so the knife stays firm in the hand even with soaked tactical gloves. To increase traction, the spine of the blade includes pronounced jimping that locks the thumb in place, and the assembly is finished with a lanyard hole that secures retention during the toughest manoeuvres.

Sheath and carry

The black leather and Kydex versions are entirely made in-house by Cudeman, crafted and fitted in detail in their workshops. As tactical carry calls for flexibility, the model is offered in three different configurations depending on the mission:

  • 291-N: a simple, comfortable flat multi-position sheath.
  • 291-NC: a flat sheath with a front pocket that includes a sharpening stone, a signal mirror and red 550 paracord for extreme survival.
  • 291-N-K: a Kydex sheath geared towards purely tactical carry and very fast extraction.

Use cases

  • Military deployments and police operations where discretion, light weight and striking power are essential.
  • Rescue in vehicles and collapsed spaces, making the most of the glass breaker and the wire cutter.
  • Demanding survival: working wood, cutting ropes or building shelters in any weather.

Care and maintenance

  • Wash the blade with soap and water after each use; keeping the steel free of residue extends the life of the blued finish.
  • Dry the Bohler N-695 thoroughly before sheathing it, especially after working in humid or tropical climates.
  • Check the tightness of the Allen hardware now and then if you chop frequently.
  • Micarta does not absorb fluids and needs no conditioning oils: simply scrub it with a brush and water to get it ready.
  • Sharpen while respecting the original grind angle and preferably use diamond stones so as not to damage the dark coating on the sides.

The Cudeman Boina Verde Cadete (291-N) distils the idea of military survival into a tool designed to go unnoticed without ever giving up its power when the moment comes. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
