Description

Cudeman Rhyno Hunter (248-L): full-tang hunting knife with olive wood scales

At the decisive moment of the stalk, when you have to close in on the quarry, it helps to carry a tool that inspires absolute confidence. The Cudeman 248-L hunting knife fits the profile of the classic big-game hunter, the kind who values fine materials but also demands high-performance behaviour. Made entirely in Albacete by Cudeman, this model pairs a powerful blade with the timeless warmth of Mediterranean wood.

The moment you pick it up, the control over the game is obvious. Thanks to a well-judged weight distribution, field-dressing tasks are carried out with notable ease and every cut gains precision. It proves that visual appeal and readiness for hard work need not be at odds in a single knife.

Why this model is a good fit

  • Geometry designed for dressing: the classic blade grind, combined with a 3.5 cm belly, opens deep, continuous cuts that separate meat without unnecessary tearing.
  • Firm, secure grip: the jimping machined into the spine gives the thumb an ideal resting point, keeping control even when you have to apply force during delicate tasks.
  • Bombproof front guard: the satin-finished A-304 stainless steel bolster acts as a solid stop and halts the hand from sliding towards the edge, even in heavy moisture.
  • Strength without excess weight: the 4 mm thickness provides the rigidity needed to work joints, while avoiding a load that tires the arm after hours of work.

Steel and edge performance

The heart of the knife is molybdenum vanadium steel, given a heat treatment that brings it to a hardness of 54/56 HRc. That figure is well suited to hunting: it offers outstanding toughness that absorbs light knocks without chipping and, above all, lets you restore the edge out in the field with a honing steel or a pocket sharpener. The satin finish improves glide through tissue and reinforces resistance to the corrosion caused by moisture and blood.

Construction and durability

This is a knife of full-tang architecture. The steel tang runs end to end through the 26.5 cm of the whole piece, turning it into a solid, dependable block that withstands the prying typical of fieldwork. Built to handle game processing, its service life is extended with sensible use; it is best not to force lateral prying against large-calibre bones, so as not to damage the grind geometry.

Handle and handling in the field

The scales are crafted from satin-finished natural olive wood, a material deeply tied to local tradition that delivers warm ergonomics and moulds to the shape of the hand. Secured with flat aluminium rivets, they leave the surface perfectly flush and remove the rub points that cause discomfort or blisters. The result is a comfortable grip that lets you handle the knife with full dexterity, even with hands soiled during dressing.

Sheath and carry

To protect the edge with confidence, the model comes with a premium brown leather sheath made by hand. The careful craftsmanship shows in every stitch and achieves firm retention that prevents losing it in the brush. With a classic belt-carry cut, it makes barely any noise, an important detail to avoid betraying your presence to wildlife while on the move.

Where it excels

  • Game processing: ideal for skinning and dressing the quarry thanks to a wide blade and an efficient grind.
  • Detail cuts: the support of the jimping on the spine makes fine work around awkward tendons and cartilage easier.
  • Tasks at the hunting post: with a standard point and overall sturdiness, it serves to prepare the post, cut twigs or finish off medium-sized game.

Care and maintenance

  • Wash the blade with soap and water as soon as you finish, to remove the organic fluids that could stain the molybdenum vanadium steel.
  • Before returning the knife to its sheath, dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth.
  • As it is olive wood, it is worth occasionally applying a few drops of linseed oil or mineral oil to the scales: it hydrates the wood, enhances its grain and prevents drying out.
  • Keep the stainless steel bolster clean and free of trapped moisture by wiping it gently.
  • Check that the lanyard pin hole stays clear, so you can tie on a safety lanyard whenever needed.

The Cudeman Rhyno Hunter (248-L) brings together the weight of tradition with flawless technical performance: a reliable tool, born from the workshops of Albacete and conceived to accompany hunts and stalks for years. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
