Description

Cudeman Jager 150-C: the hunting knife with a stag antler handle and a Central European soul

The Cudeman Jager is a piece with a distinctly Germanic character that has won over the German market, where it has become a genuine best-seller. The key lies in its proportions: a measured format that loses nothing in field performance. The name itself, Jager (German for "hunter"), foreshadows its purpose, as every detail answers to what the traditional hunter expects from a compact, sturdy and noble-looking tool.

Made entirely in the Cudeman workshops in Albacete, this model handles like a "pocket" knife thanks to how well it sits in the hand, yet it delivers the firmness of much larger pieces. Its lines revive the spirit of the hunts of old, those in which fine materials and a clean cut defined the outcome of the day.

Why this model stands out

  • Agile format: its 20.5 cm overall length gives it an ease rarely found for delicate tasks where a larger blade would get in the way.
  • Clip-point blade: the point profile provides control during skinning and field dressing with almost scalpel-like precision.
  • Protective bolster: made in polished A-304 stainless steel, it adds an elegant shine and acts as a firm stop against the hand.
  • Full-tang knife: its single-piece construction outperforms conventional tang assemblies in mechanical strength, which translates into decades of service.

Steel and edge behaviour

The blade is worked in molybdenum-vanadium steel hardened to 54/56 HRc. It is the right choice for anyone after a tough edge that resists corrosion. Its great asset is balance: it holds a biting cut throughout the whole job and, at the same time, can be resharpened without fuss anywhere with a simple stone, so the tool responds exactly when you need it.

Strength and construction

Beneath its refined appearance beats a true working tool. The full-tang build, with a 3.8 mm thick spine, gives it impeccable rigidity. The scales are permanently anchored with domed aluminium rivets, forming a compact assembly that inspires confidence from the very first grip. It withstands considerable demands, but it is worth remembering that its polish and geometry are aimed at precision cutting, so it should not be used to strike any material.

Handle and grip in the field

The handle pays tribute to hunting tradition with natural polished stag antler scales. Deer antler has a well-earned reputation for its durability and organic feel, which only grows more comfortable over time. The polishing brings out the pores and grain of the material, so no two pieces are ever alike. It also features a lanyard hole, useful as an extra hold when working in wet conditions.

Sheath and carry

The set comes with a well-crafted brown leather sheath, fitted to the knife down to the millimetre. It allows discreet, silent carry on the belt, without snagging on undergrowth, and the leather is treated to handle constant friction and protect the piece from the elements, keeping the edge always ready to hand.

What it is for

  • Big and small game: a tool geared towards skinning and dressing the animal thanks to its point and a size that is comfortable to handle.
  • Field companion: its light weight and dimensions make it ideal to hang on the belt without noticing it on long walks.
  • Collector's item: the defined style and antler finish make it a treat for enthusiasts of classic knifemaking made in Spain.

Maintenance

  • As this is a polished stag antler handle, it is best to keep the piece in a dry place and away from prolonged contact with moisture to care for the antler.
  • Wipe the blade with a soft cloth after each use to remove organic residue and preserve the satin finish.
  • For long-term storage, a thin coat of oil on the blade is recommended to protect the molybdenum-vanadium steel.
  • Touch up the edge from time to time with a good honing steel or fine-grit stone to maintain the original grind.

The Cudeman Jager (150-C) is one of those classics that never goes out of fashion. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
