Description

Cudeman Throwing Knife (178-B): a sport throwing knife with adjustable weight

Sinking the steel cleanly into the target, with that sharp, crisp impact, is the reward for patient repetition and well-trained muscle memory. Achieving that millimetre-perfect consistency calls for a tool with predictable flight and flawless resistance. The Cudeman Throwing Knife (178-B), a model with more than 25 years on the market, was designed to strike the balance between aerodynamic behaviour and exceptional durability, until it behaves like a faithful extension of the arm on every rotation.

Throwing is physics before brute force. With an overall length of 25.5 centimetres and a system of adjustable weights, this piece lets you shift the centre of gravity to suit each person's throwing style. We are talking about a dedicated sport tool, built to absorb impact after impact and let your technique progress without limits.

Reasons to choose this model

  • Customisable balance: the adjustable dual-counterweight system changes the blade's centre of gravity, tuning the spin to each style and to the distance from the target.
  • Independence at the throwing line: it comes with an Allen key to tighten, loosen or remove the weights in seconds between throws.
  • Penetration and anchoring: the pronounced, aggressive throwing point, together with a 4 cm wide blade, lets the steel split the wood fibre and stay firmly embedded.
  • Clean release: the smooth profile, with no protruding guards, lets the knife leave the fingers cleanly, with no snags to throw off its path.

Steel and point behaviour

In throwing sports, toughness matters far more than a razor edge. That is why the 178-B is made from 420 steel with a heat treatment tuned to 52/53 HRc. That restrained hardness is no accident: it gives the material the minimum elasticity essential to absorb the enormous kinetic energy of the impact against wood or against other pieces. The satin finish and the profile grind aid deep penetration without putting the structure at risk. It is worth clarifying that the piece has no cutting edge, although it does have a point capable of biting in hard.

Construction and endurance

Its solidity rests on a massive, well-balanced body. The 3.8 mm blade thickness provides the mass needed to reach a base weight of 180 grams, ideal for constant throwing. It is a robust block, designed to withstand extreme stops time and again. For safety's sake it is worth stressing that this is a precision sport projectile: it should never be used for camp cutting, prying or chopping, so that its aerodynamic behaviour stays intact over the years.

Grip and real control

The hold is taken directly on the continuous steel body. That area was designed to offer maximum options, whether you prefer the pinch grip on the blade or the hammer grip at the rear. The dual counterweight set in this section is the decisive piece for control: by varying the mass distribution, the knife adapts to the hand and to each thrower's precise moment of release, with very clean inertia transfer.

Sheath and carry

Protecting the point and moving the tool safely to the practice area is essential. To that end it comes with a snug black leather sheath, made entirely in Cudeman's own workshops. Weighing barely 50 grams, this sheath wraps the metal precisely, prevents unexpected punctures in your gear and protects the piece from moisture in transit. The Allen key to adjust the throwing weights to taste is also included.

Use cases

  • Precision throwing sport: the adjustable counterweights make it outstanding for calculating and mastering exact rotations at different distances from the target.
  • Freestyle practice: its aerodynamic profile makes it easy to switch quickly between spin throwing and instinctive no-spin release.
  • Competition on wooden targets: a tough tool that withstands intensive use and makes the most of every throw thanks to its deep bite.

Care and maintenance

  • Check the dual-counterweight screws from time to time with the included Allen key; repeated impacts can loosen them after long sessions.
  • Go over the steel bevels at the end of the day; if a chance strike against another piece in the target has left a small burr, remove it gently with a fine file so you do not cut your fingertips when throwing.
  • Remove sap and splinters from the blade with a dry cloth, since built-up resin alters the friction and hinders a clean release from the hand.
  • 420 steel resists oxidation well, but it is worth applying a drop of protective oil if the gear will be stored for long spells between competitions.
  • Keep the black leather sheath in an airy spot away from radiators, avoiding direct heat that could dry out or crack the material.

The Cudeman Throwing Knife (178-B) is far more than a knife: an adjustable ballistic instrument, made to grow with every thrower and showcase technical skill on every throw. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
