Description

Cudeman 179-N: mini throwing knife for precision tactical throwing

This model was created for the thrower who works close distances, where instinctive reaction matters more than anything else. At just 15 centimetres in overall length and with a dark finish designed not to give away your position, the Cudeman 179-N small throwing knife packs all of its aerodynamics into a compact silhouette that fits entirely in the palm. It is made by Cudeman in Albacete and aimed at those who prioritise agility and discretion over any visual flourish.

Stringing throws together at a good pace calls for a contained weight that will not tire the arm over the course of a session. At 50 grams, it lets you repeat throws without losing technique, and the configurable weight system adds extra control: the thrower decides how the piece should behave in flight, tuning it to their muscle memory until they find the exact setup.

What sets this throwing knife apart

  • Tailored flight: the adjustable counterweight shifts the centre of gravity towards the point or the butt, altering the inertia of the spin to suit each thrower's style.
  • Zero glare: the painted coating eliminates sun reflections and keeps your eye fixed on the target outdoors.
  • Anti-fatigue lightness: its low weight delays joint fatigue, ideal for long days of continuous repetition.
  • Quick adjustment: with the included Allen key you can retighten or redistribute the ballast right at the throwing line in seconds.

Steel and point behaviour

In sport ballistics a brittle steel is no use. That is why it uses 420 steel with a heat treatment tuned to reach 52/53 HRc, a value that favours toughness: the blade flexes on a microscopic scale to absorb the impact against the wood and so avoid fractures. The ground profile cleanly opens the fibres of the target and promotes a firm stick, while the black finish protects the metal from corrosion. It should be noted that the piece has no cutting edge, although it does have a very pronounced point.

Construction and durability

It is a solid steel dart made in a single piece, with no joints or weak points. With a 2.8 mm blade thickness and a 2.5 cm blade width, it brings together exactly the right robustness to take thousands of high-speed impacts. As a precision sporting tool, it is not intended for cutting firewood, prying or chopping: respecting that use keeps its flight symmetry intact for years.

Handle and grip

The grip is the bare skeleton of steel itself, painted black. As it carries no screwed-on scales, the risk of breakage disappears when several throwing knives cluster together in the target. Its smooth, continuous silhouette encourages a very clean release from the hand, with no textures to rub against the fingers at the moment of letting go, equally suited to a hammer grip and to a pinch grip on the blade.

Sheath and carry

The set comes with a plain black leather sheath of around 35 grams, cut and made by Cudeman to match the knife's silhouette to avoid punctures in the training pack. It features a classic belt loop, so the tool stays ready and shielded from the outside. The Allen key for adjusting the front weight according to the type of throw is also included.

Where it fits

  • Short-range tactical throwing: its anti-glare profile and compact size make it ideal for training quick reaction at a few metres.
  • Intensive cadence: suited to emptying the hand in seconds without punishing shoulder or elbow.
  • No-spin throwing: its configurable balance gives notable control for practising the direct, no-spin throw.

Care and maintenance

  • Use the Allen key to check that the counterweight is firm before each round; the repeated impact against the wood tends to loosen the hardware with use.
  • Wipe the blade with a dry cloth after training to remove sap and wood residue, as built-up resin slows the knife's slide between your fingers.
  • If two projectiles collide in the air, go over any burr or nick on the edge with a fine file so you do not cut yourself when throwing again.
  • Before storing the piece for long periods, apply a light coat of protective gun oil to look after the dark finish and the pores of the 420 steel.
  • Keep the black leather sheath in a cool, dry place, away from radiators or the inside of a car in the sun, so the leather does not dry out.

The Cudeman 179-N mini throwing knife combines lightness, discretion and dynamic tuning in a tool built to stick in the centre of the target and stand the test of time. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
