Description

Cudeman Turon 146-C: a big-game hunting knife with stag antler

The Cudeman Turon brings together field-ready hunting performance and a love of fine materials in a single piece, true to the Spanish knifemaking tradition of Albacete. It carries an 11 cm blade on a balanced build, designed for the hunter who wants to perform when finishing and dressing game without giving up the character of natural antler. Solid in the hand, it pairs the warmth of natural stag with the firmness of a one-piece structure. The Turon name (Spanish for polecat) nods to its hunting spirit: this small carnivore was once trained to chase rabbits, a practice that gave rise to the well-known ferret.

Made entirely in Albacete by Cudeman, the Turon stands out for its reliability in the field. It withstands the hard use of a full hunting day and offers pinpoint control thanks to its metal bolster and a weight distribution that lets you work for long stretches without tiring the wrist.

Defining features

  • Versatile geometry: a balanced point and a 3 cm wide blade, ideal for both precision cuts and skinning work.
  • Safety bolster: the fully polished A-304 stainless steel guard enhances the whole piece and stops the hand from sliding toward the edge under effort.
  • Full-tang body: worked from a single piece of steel, it rules out any breakage at the join between blade and handle.
  • Classic fastening: the domed aluminium rivets hold the assembly together with lasting firmness, faithful to the spirit of traditional hunting knives.

Steel and edge performance

The blade uses molybdenum-vanadium steel with a hardness of 54/56 HRc, highly valued among hunters for its good corrosion resistance and for taking an edge back quickly and without fuss out in the field. The grind favours an easy cut, so the tool moves smoothly even through the toughest tissue without losing bite.

Strength and construction

At 3.8 mm thick, the Turon is notably solid. Its full-tang nature spreads the cutting load along the whole piece and gives a constant sense of confidence. It is designed to work meat and organic matter; even so, to avoid altering its geometry or the seating of the natural materials, it is best to avoid hard impacts against stone or metal.

Handle and grip in use

The handle is a tribute to tradition: natural stag antler, hand-polished. The grain and tones of the antler make every piece one of a kind. The polish brings out its appearance and gives an organic, comfortable feel; being a dense material, it adds weight and shifts the balance toward the palm, which sharpens point control. It also includes a lanyard hole, a very handy safety feature on uneven ground or with wet hands.

Sheath and carry

Each unit comes with a hard-wearing brown leather sheath, cut to measure to follow the lines of the knife and allow discreet, secure carry on the belt. The leather, chosen for its durability, protects the tool from brush and the elements throughout the day.

Where it performs best

  • Big-game hunting: a first-rate ally for dressing and cleaning game after the shot, thanks to its handling.
  • A piece of tradition: the polished stag and metal bolster make it a knife with historic weight within Spanish big-game hunting.
  • Field companion: comfortable to carry on the belt, it is always on hand for anything unexpected.

Care and maintenance

  • Because it features polished stag antler, store it in a dry place and avoid wetting or submerging it to preserve its shine and shape.
  • Wipe the blade with a soft cloth after each outing to remove any organic residue that could stain the steel.
  • Take the knife out of the leather sheath during long periods of inactivity so the steel can air out.
  • Refresh the edge with fine-grit stones or quality steels, respecting the original grind.
  • The stainless bolster stays spotless with a simple wipe of a dry cloth.

The Cudeman Turon (146-C) goes beyond being just a knife: it is a reliable piece, the kind that is handed down and remembered on every trip into the hills. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
