Cudeman Mini Boina Verde 115-N: a low profile with strength taken to the extreme
The Cudeman 115-N is the most tactical and darkest variant of the well-known Mini Boina Verde series. It is an almost entirely black piece (the only accent comes from the red spacers in the Micarta) that keeps the structural toughness this model became famous for, remembered for that test in which the blade, driven into a rock, held a person's full weight without taking any damage. Here the steel takes on a dark tone to create a glare-free tool, designed for situations where discretion matters as much as cutting performance. It is a compact, efficient choice for anyone after maximum performance in a reduced size.
What sets it apart
- Anti-glare blued treatment: the black blade finish adds a protective layer against the elements and removes the reflections that give away your position outdoors.
- Strength out of all proportion to its size: with a 5 mm spine on a 9 cm blade, it offers a solidity rarely found in such a short format, ready for demanding tasks.
- Austrian Bohler N-695 steel: extends edge life and keeps the cut working even after intensive, high-friction use.
- Carefully judged colour contrast: the all-black build is set off by red spacers and matching stitching on the sheath, with the look of a professional outfit.
Steel and edge performance
The blade is made from Bohler N-695 steel with a hardness of 59/60 HRc, a high-end steel that stands out for its edge retention and wear resistance. The blued finish protects the surface against rust and corrosion, leaving the drop-point tip ready for both precision tasks and piercing. It is a reliable blade from the very first cut.
Build and durability
The 115-N is built full tang, designed to last. The 4 cm blade width together with the 5 mm thickness turns it into a small block able to take blows and pressure that would break lighter tools. The handle is secured with stainless steel Allen screws and brass bushings, so the whole assembly works as a single piece and absorbs the vibrations of continuous use. It is worth knowing that, after prolonged use, it is normal for the natural colour of the steel to show through beneath the bluing.
Handle and field grip
The satin black Micarta scales with a red spacer provide an ergonomic grip and very secure handling in any weather. Micarta is barely affected by moisture or chemicals, which ensures control with wet or sweaty hands. On the spine, jimping offers firm support for the thumb, while the integrated glass breaker and wire cutter widen its uses beyond simple cutting.
Sheath and available options
This "N" version keeps the look with quality black leather sheaths and red stitching, and comes in three configurations depending on use:
- 115-N: simple multi-position black leather sheath with red thread, compact and discreet.
- 115-NC: full multi-position black leather sheath with survival kit (stone, fire steel, mirror and 2.8 metres of paracord).
- 115-N-K: black Kydex sheath, geared towards quick draw and more tactical use.
What it is suited for
- Tactical use: the glare-free bluing makes it suitable for contexts that call for discretion.
- Survival and rescue: with its emergency tools (glass breaker and wire cutter) it adds safety in critical situations.
- Outdoor and demanding EDC: it combines a reduced format with the strength of a larger knife, comfortable to carry every day.
Care and maintenance
- Dry and clean the blade after use and apply a thin coat of oil from time to time to preserve the bluing.
- Micarta needs hardly any care; if it gets dirty with mud or grease, water, soap and a quick brush are enough to restore its texture.
- Periodically check that the Allen screws are tight so the full-tang assembly stays solid.
- Sharpen with diamond or ceramic stones, the most suitable for the high hardness of Bohler steel.
