Description

Cudeman Corbett (256-K): a classic hunting knife with Cocobolo scales

The Cudeman Corbett (256-K) pays tribute to Jim Corbett, the Irish-born naturalist, writer and hunter who devoted his life to protecting the villages of India. Raised from childhood in the heart of the jungle and holding the rank of lieutenant colonel on French soil during the Great War of 1914, he built his legend by confronting the man-eating big cats: between 1918 and 1930 he brought down twelve of those beasts, including the dreaded Champawat tigress, which is credited with 430 deaths. That legacy of absolute reliability inspires this premium edition, conceived for the hunter who demands millimetre precision when field-dressing game while never letting go of the status and charm of the finest materials.

Why it suits you

  • Smooth, effortless cutting: the full flat grind and its 11-centimetre cutting edge make clean incisions easy and reduce hand fatigue while dressing the carcass.
  • Directional control under pressure: the machined ratchet on the spine acts as a natural thumb rest, so you can apply force without your fingers sliding towards the edge.
  • A one-of-a-kind piece with a traditional stamp: the striking natural grain of the handle makes every example unique, ideal for showing off on driven hunts and expeditions.

Steel and edge performance

On the toughest stalk there is no time to spare for reviving the edge. That is why this model is fitted with the remarkable Bohler N690Co steel, heat-treated to a hardness of 60/61 HRc. This high-end alloy offers outstanding edge retention, capable of handling the complete processing of a large animal, and it stands up well to contact with blood and other fluids. That said, such high hardness means you will need quality diamond or ceramic stones if you want to restore the factory edge.

Construction and durability

The strength of this piece comes from its full-tang design: a solid steel tang 4 millimetres thick runs through the tool from the Drop-Point tip to the pommel and perfectly balances its 220 grams of weight. The scales are fixed to the frame with notable firmness by means of special stainless triple-point screws and internally threaded brass bushings. Since it is designed for continuous cutting and skinning, it is best not to use it as a machete or as a lever on joints or heavy bone, so as not to damage its fine geometry.

Handle and control in real conditions

After many hours of work, ergonomics and feel become decisive. This version features magnificent hand-polished Cocobolo wood scales, a dense and highly noble species set over elegant black spacers. Its anatomical shape moulds to the contour of the hand and provides a warm grip that reduces fatigue. For added safety during delicate manoeuvres, the pommel includes a lanyard hole, which keeps the tool tethered to the wrist at all times.

Sheath and portability

Such a carefully finished knife deserves the best protection in the field. The piece comes with an excellent brown leather pistol-style sheath, a classic of the Cudeman brand. This sheath is made entirely by the manufacturer in its workshops in Albacete and embraces the knife along its full depth, allowing a very secure, discreet and silent belt carry, perfect for moving through the undergrowth without being given away.

Use cases

  • Highly precise skinning work on big-game animals, right on site.
  • Careful processing of meat and trophies, making the most of the belly of the grind.
  • A prestige piece as your main knife on classic driven hunts and hunting outings.

Care and maintenance

  • Dry and clean the blade with a microfibre cloth once the job is done; removing blood as soon as possible prevents the acid from dulling its bright mirror polish.
  • As a dense wood, Cocobolo appreciates the occasional few drops of linseed oil or natural wax to nourish the grain and prevent it from drying out; always store it in a dry place and never submerge it in water.
  • Refresh the edge periodically on leather or fine ceramics to keep its bite without wearing the steel away unnecessarily.
  • If you are going to store it for a long time, take it out of the leather sheath to protect the metal from the residual moisture that the tanning retains.

The Cudeman Corbett (256-K) combines cutting efficiency and artisan nobility in a single premium tool, aimed at those who hunt demanding the very best from the edge while also enjoying the appeal of classic and exotic woods. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
