Description

Cudeman La Marinera in stag antler: naval tradition meets next-generation steel

The La Marinera is one of the most recognisable designs in the catalogue of Cudeman, the knife maker based in Albacete. Its silhouette comes from the folding knives that for decades accompanied those who worked on deck, and this version revisits that classic pattern dressed in fine materials. The result is a reliable tool for demanding environments that, at the same time, conveys the distinguished character of Albacete cutlery.

Reasons to choose it

  • Safe tip: the parrot-beak shape reduces the risk of accidental punctures if the knife slips or is used on unstable surfaces, a trait inherited directly from the seafaring trade.
  • Top-level cutting: it is fitted with the most demanding steel in the Cudeman range, capable of performing like a professional tool in any cutting task.
  • Refined aesthetics: the rivet is housed inside the spring, so the mechanism stays hidden and the piece gains a cleaner look compared with conventional versions.
  • One-of-a-kind piece: because it is crafted from a premium organic material, each scale shows its own grain and tones, making every unit a distinct example.

The steel and its edge

This edition of La Marinera is built with Bohler N690Co steel, the highest-grade material Cudeman uses. Hardened to 60/61 HRc and alloyed with cobalt, it offers outstanding edge retention together with notable resistance to corrosion. Expect a biting, long-lasting cut, designed not to give in to fibrous materials or to humid conditions.

How it is built

The folding knife is produced entirely in Cudeman's workshops in Albacete and uses a back-lock that gives it complete structural firmness. The handle is anchored with a steel pin, a reinforcement that keeps the chassis solid and prevents play from developing after prolonged use. It is a piece conceived to last for generations, though it is worth remembering that both the tip and the pivot are calculated for cutting and not for prying.

Handle and grip

The polished stag antler handle with a red spacer brings a warmth and natural feel that no synthetic material can reproduce. The polish lets the hand reposition itself smoothly without giving up the grip that real work demands, while the red spacer adds a technical contrast and reinforces the assembly. At 9.5 cm, its ergonomic profile sits well in the palm and allows long sessions with no discomfort from pressure points.

Sheath and carry

The model is supplied with a brown leather sheath (Ref. 605-C), handcrafted in Cudeman's own leatherwork section. It is moulded so the knife stays well secured and protected, making it easy to carry on the belt. It also includes a pass-through for a lanyard cord, useful for tying the piece to the wrist or to your gear so you do not lose it at tricky moments.

What it is for

  • Boating and fishing: its blunt tip lets you handle ropes and nets safely for the user.
  • Everyday carry with style: light and compact, it handles daily tasks with an air of classic elegance.
  • Collecting: it distils the best of Albacete craftsmanship by bringing together tradition and modern steel.

Care

  • To preserve the polished stag antler, it is best to store it in a dry place and not expose it to prolonged humidity.
  • After using it, wipe a microfibre cloth over the blade to remove residue and keep the shine of the satin finish.
  • Periodically, place a drop of mineral oil on the pivot and the spring mechanism so the opening stays smooth and the lock snaps firmly.
  • Do not wet the handle; if it gets dirty, clean it with a barely damp cloth and keep it away from intense heat sources.

In its stag antler version, the Cudeman La Marinera brings together naval heritage and current technique in a single dependable piece, made to last. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
