Cudeman Galatea 325-D: noble wood and no-compromise cutting power for the field
Named after the mythological goddess Galatea, this Cudeman folding knife pairs the warm character of traditional wood with first-class cutting performance. Designed for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts who need a hunting knife that is light yet decisive, the Galatea 325-D stands out for the nobility of its materials and a handle that gives you total command of the edge. It is a knife you can rely on, ready to respond just when the day gets tough.
What sets it apart
- Precise, versatile cutting: a blade ground to a drop-point profile, with a pronounced and stable belly, perfect for skinning and for long cuts without snagging.
- A firm hold under load: the back-lock secures the blade emphatically and protects your hand when force is applied in directional cutting.
- You barely feel its weight: around 135 grams, a companion that goes unnoticed in the pocket until the moment you put it to work.
- Grip with personality: Nordic wood combined with coloured spacers delivers a natural feel that aids the hold and shields your hand from the cold outdoors.
Steel and edge behaviour
It is fitted with the renowned Austrian steel Bohler N690Co, hardened to 60/61 HRc, which translates into outstanding edge retention. The cobalt in its alloy adds extra toughness that extends the working life of the edge and lets you process several pieces without stopping to resharpen at every turn. Its resistance to corrosion is high, though it is worth remembering that the edge is intended solely for cutting meat, leather and wood; the tip should never be used to pry or to force bone joints apart.
Construction and solidity
The whole knife is built for lasting mechanical reliability. The scales are firmly attached to the frame by a classic brass pin that prevents lateral play and vibration. The blade, 2.7 mm thick, strikes the balance between fine penetration and the robustness that field work demands, always within the reasonable limits of a precision folder.
Handle and real control
The handle is made of curly birch with blue spacers, a striking, living wood that offers a textured grip and full security. This wood performs well with sweaty or cold hands, so you never lose your sense of the edge while working. At the end it features a lanyard hole, a safety feature that lets you tie the knife to your wrist and keep it from dropping into the mud or getting lost in the undergrowth.
Versions and sheath
This knife is offered in two configurations. The leather sheaths that accompany the knives are made in-house by Cudeman, designed, cut and stitched in their workshops so that the knife fits exactly and travels protected on the belt:
- 325-D: knife without sheath.
- 325-DF: knife with a black sheath whose blue stitching matches the blue spacer of the birch wood (sheath 603-NA).
Where it performs best
- Game processing: the drop-point profile takes the lead when opening and cleaning game with precision, reducing the risk of piercing internal organs.
- Camp life: its ground edge cuts rope, carves light wood and solves structural fixes with great agility.
- The hunter's break: a clean, hygienic cut, perfect for organising your provisions and slicing food in the middle of a stalk.
Care and maintenance
- As this is a living wood, keep the curly birch in a dry place and never let it get wet under any circumstances.
- Carefully clean the spring channel and the base of the blade after each use, so that dust or resin does not hinder closing.
- Apply a micro-drop of dedicated mechanism oil to the central pivot when you feel friction on opening.
- To maintain the edge, use a strop or very fine-grain ceramic stones, without altering the original sharpening angle.
The Cudeman Galatea (325-D) proves that careful aesthetics can coexist with effectiveness in the field. A thoroughly dependable knife, made with the know-how of Albacete knifemaking and built to last for many years. Available at Navajeria with shipping across mainland Spain.
